Plexiglas saves Yankees fans from dangerous shards of broken bat (VIDEO)

Bats break at baseball games all of the time — but few of the incidents are as scary as this video shows.

The fans at Yankee Stadium had to take cover as Dayan Viciedo's bat shatters and flies into the stands during Wednesday night's game between the Yankees and White Sox. Luckily, a Plexiglas barrier separated them from the frighteningly sharp dagger and sword made of wood as the two pieces menacingly twirled into the stands.

The relieved look on the couple — who were in the direct line of fire — says it all.

Whew!

Ian Kinsler's unbelievable hidden ball inside-the-park home run

It's a lesson every kid learns day one in Little League — the play isn't over until the umpire makes a call. Chicago White Sox leftfielder Dayan Viciedo finally learned that lesson to his dismay.

A ground ball down the left-field line eluded Vicedo and got lost behind the wall allowing Ian Kinsler to round the bases for a bizarre inside-the-park homer.

While logic says Kinsler should have been held up at second or even third for stadium interference, the umpire never ruled the play dead. So the Texas Ranger scored standing up.

Little Yankees fan falls asleep at game ... wakes up to real nightmare

This young Yankees fan fell asleep during Wednesday night's marathon game against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field and woke up to nothing less than a New York nightmare.

After Mariano Rivera blew a save in the ninth inning and the game went into extra innings, the little guy dozed off (insert "Enter Sandman" joke here) only to wake up in the 12th-inning to something worse than the Bogeyman — a 6-5 extra-inning loss and a three-game sweep by the Sox over the reeling Yankees.

Watch when the poor guy wakes up and doesn't know what's going on —and probably thought the Yankees' collapse was all a bad dream.

Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez have both, respectively, called this season "a nightmare." Now this kid knows the feeling — first hand.

Girardi miffed at fans cheering A-Rod getting hit by pitch (VIDEO)

Alex Rodriguez's return to the New York Yankees lineup has been met with about as much warmth as one would expect the scandalized third baseman's comeback could muster — especially in front of the Chicago home crowd.

After Monday night's barrage of boos in his 2013 major league debut, A-Rod finally got a little love from Chi-town — even if it came attached to a 93-mph fastball to the elbow from White Sox hurler Chris Sale.

Rodriguez was grazed by a Sale pitch in the third inning. And the fans who had booed Rodriguez for two nights, finally got to sarcastically cheer the Yankees' pariah.

Afterwards, a miffed Yankees manager Joe Girardi scolded the mean fans.

"There is something wrong with that," he said after his team's 3-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox. "I often think it starts from the adults. If it were their child would they want him to be hit? Because the kids are only going to repeat what the adults do."

Said Rodriguez of the cheers: "I didn't hear that. It was the weirdest thing. I forgot to put my elbow pad on — probably the first time in 2,000 at-bats. Walking up to the plate, I said, 'Whatever you do, don't get hit in the elbow.' On the second pitch, I got hit on the elbow. I couldn't believe it. I love the fans in Chicago."

Rodriguez claimed the ball barely hit him.

Wait until Girardi hears the home town fans at a packed Yankee Stadium Friday night. Time to bring out the ear muffs.

Gordon Beckham makes acrobatic breakdancing catch (VIDEO)

Who knew Gordon Beckham had a little B-Boy inside of him?  The Chicago White Sox second baseman back-peddled into right field to make this acrobatic circus catch topped off with a little head-spin thrown in at the end.

Now if he could do the same thing while doing a one-handed air flare, the Rock Steady Crew might come calling.

Josh Phegley explains his mullet 'do: 'Nothing better than looking like an idiot'

They're calling it "Phegley Phever" on the South Side of Chicago. Josh Phegley is off to a fast start since his Major League debut earlier this month (he's hit safely in nine of his 12 starts with three homers and 10 RBIs). But the real highlight might be his hairdo — a mullet.

The game of baseball brings a lot of stress, especially at the highest level -- so Phegley uses the business up front, party in the back hairstyle to stay relaxed.

"When you get upset, you need something to cool you off a little bit. [There's] nothing better than looking like an idiot and having fun with it," Phegley said.

Joe Dirt couldn't have put it better.

The White Sox catcher claims his hair is getting a little too long on top — so we're expecting a full-blown '92 Billy Ray Cyrus by the end of the season.

Call him Figuel Cabrera from now on

Miguel Cabrera rested his sore left hip flexor Tuesday night against the White Sox. So how did last year's Triple Crown winner and AL MVP pass the time in the dugout during his down time — by trying to feed Fig Newtons to his Tigers teammates.

Brayan Pena looks amused, but not too enthused, about getting one of of the cookies shoved down his throat so Miggy Figgy ate it himself.

Pena looks like an Oreos type of guy anyway.

IBO Light Heavyweight Champion Andrzej Fonfara challenges Adam Dunn to boxing match

Andrzej Fonfara brought a little something extra to the mound when he visited U.S. Cellular Field to throw out the ceremonial first pitch for his home town Chicago White Sox Tuesday night.  The IBO Light Heavyweight World Champion also carried a swagger and a challenge to White Sox slugger Adam Dunn.

Before making the opening toss, Fonfara, known as "Chicago's Polish Prince," called out the big first baseman — even though Fonfara will actually square off against former champ, Gabriel Campillo, at U.S. Cellular on August 16.

"If he wants to try sparring, why not?" Fonfara said. "We'll see what happens."

Dunn — who is 6-foot-6 and weighs in at 285 pounds — would have to drop a few pounds before facing the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Fonfara.

Dunn hasn't responded to Fonfara's challenge but, if he does, the Big Donkey might want to bring a bat.
