Man stabbed to death after Giants and Dodgers fans fight near AT&T Park

A man was stabbed to death after a fight broke out near San Francisco's AT&T Park, where the Giants were playing the Los Angeles Dodgers, authorities said.

Police tell KNTV the victim was in a crowd of Dodgers fans when the fight started shortly after 11:30 p.m. (PST) Wednesday at Third and Harrison streets near the ballpark.

Three people have been detained. Police have not released additional details.

The violence comes just three days after a teenage football fan was attacked at San Francisco's Candlestick Park during the San Francisco 49ers 27-7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Other violence broke out at the game on Sunday despite an increase in security. The stadium was also the site of two shootings, beatings and fights during a preseason game two years ago.

Stadium security and fan behavior also came under scrutiny when another Dodgers-Giants matchup saw a Northern California paramedic severely beaten. Brian Stow, a Giants fan, suffered a traumatic brain injury after a beating by two men dressed in Dodgers gear following the March 31, 2012, home opener between the teams.

After spending his first seven seasons as a member of the San Francisco Giants, Brian Wilson returned to AT&T Park on Tuesday wearing Dodger blue. The 30-second ovation was a smattering of boos and cheers for the former fan favorite — with the cheers mostly coming from visiting L.A. fans.

Wilson was perfect and struck out two batters in one inning of work.

As usual, Vin Scully succinctly put the whole scenario into perspective.

Lost in all of the controversy surrounding New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez these days is the fact that the maligned slugger has hit a lot of home runs — tainted or not.

A-Rod's legacy in pinstripes might get even more complicated after he crushed a grand slam Friday night passing Yankees icon Lou Gehrig to become the all-time MLB grand slam leader with 24.

Rodriguez's seventh-inning blast, an opposite-field shot to rightfield, broke a career grand-slam tie with Gehrig and led the Yankees to a 5-1 victory over the Giants.

"It's hard to think about things like that right now," Rodriguez said about passing the Iron Horse. "We're really in a sprint to the end here and every win is huge for us."

A-Rod came to the plate mired in a 1-for-25 slump and the Yankees entered the night with five losses in their last six games.

The Yankees, who have eight games left, are three games behind the Indians for the second wild-card spot.

"I saw where I was 1-for-24, 1-for-25, whatever it was, but I thought for the most part I was swinging the bat decently well, but that's baseball," said A-Rod, whose 654th homer moved him within six of fourth-place Willie Mays on the all-time list. "One swing can turn a lot of things around."

At least for one night.

Jerry Seinfeld joins Mets broadcast booth (VIDEO)

If you don't already get enough of "Seinfeld " reruns airing non-stop on television these days, maybe you were lucky enough to catch real-life Jerry calling the Mets game at Citi Field Tuesday night.

The star of the iconic TV sitcom and die-hard Mets fan joined old friend Keith "Pretty Boy" Hernandez, Ron Darling and Gary Cohen in the SNY broadcast booth during the game against the Giants.

The comedian brought his usual sense of of the absurd to the quartet and offered a few What's the deal with takes on things bothering Mets fans (maybe not) these days. Seinfeld suggested padding the outfield walls with sofa cushions to make them safer and getting complimentary surgery for mentioning Dr. James Andrews on the air. He even touched on Hernandez's make-out scene with Julia Louis-Dreyfus on the classic hour-long 1992 episode "The Boyfriend." Hernandez sounded joyful recalling they did the scene in "eight takes."

As hopefully expected, it was a broadcast segment about nothing. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Two San Francisco Giants fans donned World Series ring hats Saturday night — and the huge replicas are both spot on — while the  booth wonders if the team should have a ring hat giveaway night in the future.

The real Tiffany & Co. bling has 52 melee diamonds and seven round diamonds on each side. So everyone says yes.

Giants fan makes impressive catch holding baby and diaper bag (VIDEO)

During a heart-stopping moment at AT&T Park, a San Francisco Giants fan caught a foul ball in the upper deck while loosely clutching a baby and diaper bag — but the momentum nearly forces him to drop the infant and go tumbling over the row of seats in front.

Much to the delight of the fans, and relief from whom we presume is the girl's mother, he manages to stand back up with the ball in his right hand and his little girl still in his arms.

Grinning from ear to ear, the man has just enough time to collect a high five from another fan before a worried looking woman in pink takes the crying baby from him.

Safely back in the woman's arms, the little girl smiles while her Dad goes on celebrating.

The Giants went on to beat the Diamondbacks, 3-2, after Angel Pagan delivered a walk-off hit for the third time in the season, driving in the game-winning run in the 11th.

A Giants fan found himself in a real conundrum as he struggled to tape up a K sign after a Ryan Vogelsong strikeout and the broadcast camera caught the frustrated guy's every attempt to make his little letter hang correctly. As the announcers keep repeating the mantra "duck (duct) tape," the man still can't get his little letter to stay flat.

Maybe it would have worked better at Candlestick Park.

Giants players gets showered when sprinkler system goes off at Coors Field

The fans at Coors Field got a free water show during Monday night's Giants-Rockies game when all of the sprinklers went off for a few seconds during an at-bat in the fourth-inning.

With San Francisco already trailing 5-0, one of the announcers wondered if Giants manager Bruce Bochy called it in to the grounds crew to help "wake up his team."

The unexpected shower didn't help and the Giants went on to  lose 6-1.

Look at it this way — the ball "dude" (announcer's call) could have been A-Rod getting beaned in Boston. Who said that?

Matronly white-haired usher breaks up scrum for bat in stands

A elderly, white-haired female usher used her best finger-waving skills to break up a little tussle in the stands as Giants fans tried to stake their claim to a wayward bat at AT&T Park last night.

With tempers rising and about a dozen hands struggling to get the bat Carlos Gomez accidental flung into the stands, the matronly usher uses a stern brow and accusing finger to get the feuding fans to surrender the valued souvenir.

She also told them to sit up straight and keep their hands to themselves or she'd bring out the wooden spoon.

Fan in McCovey Cove watches Giants game from towering sailboat mast

We've seen a lot of weird things appear in McCovey Cove during Giants games over the years — UFO boats and hotdog-selling kayaks — but at least this guy gets to see the game.

This fan perched himself on the top of the mast of his large schooner so he could get a crow's nest view of the goings on inside AT&T Park.

Guess he couldn't afford tickets.

Kensuke Tanaka makes spectacular catch in Giants debut

It didn't take long for Kensuke Tanaka to make a big impression during his MLB debut Tuesday night.

The San Francisco Giants leftfielder also left a little mark on the left field wall of AT&T Park — after robbing the New York Mets' Andrew Brown of hit in the second-inning with this spectacular catch.

Mets' Dillon Gee posts photo of Asiana Flight 214 wreckage as team's plane lands in San Francisco

The New York Mets' team's flight landed safely at San Francisco International Airport Sunday night as the wreckage of Asiana Airlines Flight 214 — which crashed and resulted in the death of two teenage girls just before noon on Saturday — lay on an adjacent runway.

Mets starting pitcher Dillon Gee posted a photo of the plane, still lying in pieces on runway, and a message of support for those affected on his Twitter account.

As the tragedy is still being investigated, an outpouring of support on social media continues.

Gee tweeted the photo of the plane with a message on his account (@DIllonGee): "Still thinking about the people affected by the ASIANA crash in SF! We just landed right next to it!!"

Other Mets and team personnel reacted in awe upon the their plane passing the doomed flight. Media relations man Jay Horwitz called it "scary" and rookie right-hander Zack Wheeler said it was "Unreal!!!"

The Mets are set to take on the Giants in San Francisco Monday night.
