Longoria concedes strike after knocking helmet over eyes (VIDEO)

Evan Longoria takes a strike from Phil Hughes after knocking his helmet over his eyes while at the plate Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium. The Rays' slugger apparently tapped the back of his lid with his bat right before the pitch.

Hughes is the one who should have been hiding his face after two disastrous innings.

Longoria?  He went 3-for-5 and blasted two home runs to help beat the Yankees 8-3.

Mariano Rivera bobblehead delay causes chaos during Yankees giveaway

A New York Yankees giveaway resulted in mayhem after a shipment of Mariano Rivera bobblehead dolls showed up late in the Bronx causing long lines and complaints at Yankee Stadium before Tuesday's game against the Rays.

The Yankees' decision to pass out 18,000 bobbleheads on "Mariano Rivera Bobblehead Night" turned into a promotional nightmare after a shipping snafu kept the valued souvenirs from arriving by 5 p.m. —when the gates were scheduled to open — after thousands of fans lined up outside the Stadium.

The gates opened more than 30 minutes later than usual, and the Yankees handed out vouchers instead, reported CBS New York. An announcement was made during the middle of the third inning that vouchers for the Little Mos could be redeemed from that point until 30 minutes after the game.

Lines formed immediately and stretched from beyond the right-field foul pole to third base on the main level, then up a ramp to another level and back down to the first level, as some fans waited several innings to scoop up their gifts. Pushing and arguing broke out among the anxious fans waiting for the freebies.

Deborah Tymon, the Yankees’ senior VP of marketing, said the shipment arrived shortly after 6 p.m., adding "everyone with a voucher will be receiving a bobblehead tonight."

According to Tymon, the shipment originated in Seattle and traveled by train through Chicago, before the truck transporting the dolls broke down in New Jersey.

Tymon added that the Yanks typically receive giveaway shipments on the day of a game due to storage restrictions at the Stadium. But fans were in no mood to hear excuses.

Before the game was over, some of the bobbleheads showed up on eBay with a $250 asking price.

Josh Reddick wears Georgia Bulldogs football gear before game

No, that wasn't the Oakland Athletic's catcher Kurt Suzuki sporting a Georgia Bulldogs face mask while sitting in the team's dugout Saturday afternoon — it was college gridiron fan and A's rightfielder Josh Reddick.

Before the A's game against Tampa Bay, the Georgia native warmed up wearing a University of Georgia football helmet and cycling jersey to celebrate his favorite team's opening game against Clemson. It's too bad the Tigers outlasted Reddick's Dawgs, 38-35.

Earlier in the week, the Rays' David Price donned a full Vanderbilt football getup during his warmups.

It's good to see that SEC football is alive and well on Major League baseball diamonds across America.

Matt Joyce wraps Wil Myers bat with caution tape

During Thursday's game against the Mariners, Rays outfielder Matt Joyce wrapped teammate Wil Myers bat with caution tape after the right-fielder's red-hot bat connected on an RBI single earlier in the game.

In only 47 games, Myers has been quietly putting up Yasiel Puig-like numbers and has thrust himself into AL Rookie-of-the-Year contention.

If Myers doesn't get recognition for his rookie year (.326, 9 HRs, 37 RBIs so far), Joyce might be using crime-scene tape at the end of the season.

Young Dodgers fan tags out Juan Uribe during photo op

Juan Uribe has been taking a lot of ribbing since falling for the old hidden ball trick the other day against the Rays. After the third baseman got caught napping and called out for taking his foot off the bag, his teammates gave him a shoe taped to a base as a gag.

Last night even a young Dodgers fan got in on the action.

The kid was taking a photo with Uribe before Tuesday's game against the Mets when, before walking away, touches him on the arm with the ball to recreate Evan Longoria's tag during Uribe's embarrassing gaffe.

At first, an astonished Uribe glares at the boy before realizing his teammates put the little prankster up to the comical task.

It's pretty funny now but ... if they had lost.

Dodgers win on walk-off throwing error (VIDEO)

If you were wondering when the last time a Dodgers highlight reel didn't feature Los Angeles' biggest star Yasiel Puig well ... it was last night.

Puig was only an extra, excuse me, background actor when Adrian Gonzalez comes around to score the winning run on a throwing error by Fernando Rodney, giving the Dodgers a 7-6 walk-off win over the Rays.

A real horror film for Tampa Bay film buffs.

Jeter homers on first pitch he sees during first game back with Yankees (VIDEO)

It didn't take long for Derek Jeter to test out that pesky quad strain and, as usual, he did it in grand style by homering on the first pitch he saw from the Rays Matt Moore on Sunday at Yankee Stadium.

Even fresh off the DL, the Captain still has a flair for big moments — just look back at his record during the playoffs and the game when he got his 3,000th hit. But on this Sunday, with thousands of forlorn Yankee fans' eyes focused on the returning Jeter, he did it again by lifting the ball over the right-center field fence just when the slumping team need it most.

Maybe it's that familiar introduction of No. 2 by Bob Sheppard that got him pumped, but Jeter did what no Yankee has done in the last 10 games and something no right-handed Yankee batter has done since June 25 — hit a home run.

After high-fives all over the dugout, Jeter even came out for an abbreviated curtain call.

The shortstop started for the first time since July 11, when he suffered a quadriceps strain in his only Major League game of the season after a broken ankle sidelined him for all of April, May and June.

Suddenly, things are fun and exciting again in the Bronx.

Annoying fan videobombs friend's camera time during Soriano introduction

A Yankees fan with a homemade sign welcoming back Alfonso Soriano —after a 10-year leave — had his big moment on the Jumbotron video-bombed by his annoying pal.

There was a nice welcome during the left fielder's intro before his first at-bat wearing pinstripes after his trade back to Yankee Stadium.  Picked out of the crowd by the TV booth was the guy holding the simple sign with the words "Welcome Back Soriano." He got some valuable face time on the big screen until his goofy bud stuck out his tongue and ruined the moment.

Soriano wasn't much better with his new friends on the Yankees roster.  He was 0-for-5 with a run scored and and RBI as the home team got trounced by the Rays, 10-6.

With friends like these.

Another kid punches dad for dropping foul ball at MLB game

It's a scene that seems to becoming commonplace in the stands these days. Less than two weeks after a young San Francisco Giants fan let loose on his father for not coming up with a line-drive foul ball, we get this young Astros fan punching his dad for misplaying a wayward ball at Minute Maid Park.

Tuesday's tantrum at a Tampa Bay Rays-Houston Astros game was a little different. First, the souvenir a dad was trying to snag for his son was nothing more than a lazy pop-up. Second, the old man had a glove. But it was a catcher's mitt!

The kid's playful jabs on his paternal punching bag were probably well deserved.  Dad. You've got to make that play.
